Colin specialises in teaching small groups or individuals, where he can spend more time ensuring that his students can become proficient in their skills. His friendly calm manner and methodical approach ensures that nervous or inexperienced divers who may need more time to achieve their goals, both in and out of the water are accommodated.
Colin first became interested in diving in 1993, with his first experience being in a cold, murky dry dock in North Germany whilst serving in the Military, which wasn’t an ideal start for anyone!
Undeterred by this experience and whilst on a career break in Australia in 2003, he decided to try again. After completing his PADI open water course in Sydney and diving all around the coasts of Australia, he ended upon completing his Advanced Open Water course on a live-aboard on The Great Barrier Reef.
From here, his passion and enthusiasm has grown and developed, enabling him to dive all over Egypt, Malta, New Zealand, Iceland and Thailand; however, his main passion is UK diving.
He soon developed an interest in conservation, after observing first- hand the devastation caused by ghost fishing gear and was instrumental in bringing conservation diving to Cornwall. This included involvement in Divers against Debris (now Fathoms Free) as well as Ghost Fishing UK: a charity focussed on the recovery of lost and abandoned fishing gear as well as education.
His other interest is wrecks and he can usually be found, when he isn’t teaching, on a wreck off of one of our coasts.
Colin became a PADI Instructor in 2013 before crossing over to SSI in 2014; teaching a full spectrum of courses for both agencies. During this time Colin became involved in technical diving, a passion he follows today. This led to teaching technical diving through PADI TEC REC, before achieving his TDI/SDI instructor status in 2018.
Additionally, Colin has also completed a GUE fundamentals course, MOD 1 JJ-CCR and is an active member of the Ghost Fishing UK team. He is an IDEST service engineer as well as a service technician for Scubapro, Apeks, Aqualung and Oceanic as well as being a full-time Police Officer.
